College is about more than just your grades

Students’ Union and Enrichment

With our holistic approach, we will not only deliver a first-class education, but also ensure each individual student leaves with more than ‘just’ grades. You will be encouraged to try new things, challenge yourself, reach higher, achieve more. You will leave equipped with skills that will benefit you for the rest of your life.

  • Trips and excursions

At Pudsey Sixth Form College, we believe that learning goes beyond the classroom. That’s why we offer students the chance to take part in a wide range of national and international trips, expanding their horizons and gaining invaluable experience along the way.

Through the Turing Scheme, students can embark on fully funded educational trips, developing key skills in real-world settings. These international placements provide an incredible opportunity to immerse themselves in different cultures, boost employability, and build confidence. Students from our sister college, Leeds Sixth Form College, have travelled the globe, returning with fresh perspectives, enhanced skills, and lifelong connections.

Recent trips have included visits to Botswana, Antigua, and Athens, offering students hands-on learning experiences in exciting new environments. Closer to home, students have engaged in activities such as:

    • Competing in the NatWest Graduate Scheme Competition in London
    • Taking part in the general election vote counting
    • Visiting Oxford University to explore higher education opportunities

Whether you’re looking to develop your skills, experience new cultures, or simply challenge yourself in a new environment, our trips and excursions offer unforgettable opportunities to learn and grow.

  • Enrichment

Recognising that there is more to sixth form education than a piece of paper, we run an extensive range of enrichment activities. These activities are a great way to make new friends and have fun. Enrichment will not only help build your confidence and enhance your learning experience, it will also be a positive addition to university and job applications.

  • Students’ Union

Leeds City College’s Students’ Union (LCCSU) works in partnership with Pudsey Sixth Form College and is an independent organisation that makes your student experience more enjoyable. From fun events to the promotion of student-led activity, our aim is to ensure you are engaged, represented and supported throughout your time at Pudsey Sixth Form College.

Our societies are student-run, with support from our Students’ Union and Enrichment team. We welcome any suggestions for societies and activities – please let us know what you would like to see as part of your enrichment programme, by contacting us or including the information on your application form.
  • Student Voice

It’s important for students to have their say and our Students’ Union officers act as representatives for different groups. There are opportunities for you to become a student leader, have your say and work with the college to continually develop Pudsey Sixth Form College now, and for future students.

  • Tutorial and Personal, Health, Social and Citizenship Education (PHSCE)

Tutorials and PHSCE lessons give you the opportunity to explore and discuss topics beyond your chosen courses. From developing a greater understanding of the world around us and preparing for life in modern Britain, to discussing health and wellbeing, equality, diversity and inclusion and citizenship, we explore a wide range of subjects. Focus is also given to your personal development in 1:1 tutorials.

  • Student Funds and Welfare

The Welfare team supports students through crises, giving advice on benefit problems, debt, housing and homelessness, loss of work, and not having enough money for food and bills.

We don’t want financial concerns to hold students back – as a college we work hard to:

    • Support students to overcome financial barriers to attending college*
    • Provide a range of support including meals, travel passes and help with childcare*

    *Eligibility criteria apply

In addition to the above, support may be available for students aged 16-18 who live alone or are in care or are a care leaver.

Visit our Financial Support page for more information. Alternatively, contact the Welfare team on welfare@leedscitycollege.ac.uk

Our vision

We believe that our job is to inspire success in each and every one of our students. Our aim is to build a space where students feel part of their community, where classrooms are designed to stimulate learning and social spaces to stimulate lively debate, with enrichment activities that prioritise social action, and an atmosphere that encourages social cohesion.

We are building a home for academic excellence in Pudsey that enhances and complements the current educational offering, and that will inspire students to grow and develop to their full potential. By encouraging students to become independent learners and thinkers, they will be equipped with all the tools they need to succeed in university and skilled employment.

We don’t just teach you now: we give you lessons that benefit your everyday life year after year.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are building a bank of everything you may need to know, so if your question isn’t featured below, drop us an email.

  • What’s the difference between sixth form and college?

Sixth forms tend to be attached to a secondary school – you may have to wear a uniform and the provision tends to be limited to A Levels. Sixth form colleges are independent educational establishments, where students are treated as young adults and emphasis is placed on independence and preparing students for adult life beyond college. At Pudsey Sixth Form College you will have all the support you need to develop as a young adult. Our provision is predominantly A Levels but our hybrid programme offers the opportunity to explore vocational courses alongside A Levels.

  • Is Pudsey Sixth Form College part of a school?

No, we are not attached to any school. We are built very close to Crawshaw Academy, but we are separate from the school, with a separate entrance, building, and staff.

Pudsey Sixth Form College is part of Luminate Education Group, who run Leeds City College, Keighley College, Harrogate College and Pudsey’s ‘sister’ school, Leeds Sixth Form College. Luminate Education Group has many years of experience in delivering quality education, and the Group was awarded an overall ‘good’ rating in the most recent Ofsted inspection in 2022.

  • What courses are available?

We offer a broad range of post-GCSE options, including an extensive range of A Level subjects, and we are offering two T Levels. There’s also a Hybrid Programme, which combines two A Level subjects with a vocational course. To see our full offering and compare your choices, visit our Course Options page.

  • Why choose A Levels?

A Levels are the traditional route to higher education. Highly respected by employers, they can also bolster job and apprenticeship applications. They allow students to specialise in a chosen set of subjects, building key academic skills such as independent research and communicating complex information.

  • Why choose a T Level?

T Levels are a great option after GCSEs as they blend classroom learning with workplace experience. If you already know what industry you want to work in, you can get a head start in your career by choosing a qualification that gets you work experience with an employer. The study element gives you the knowledge you need to succeed, and your work placement gives you the essential skills that you will use in your future career.

  • Who will be teaching me?

Our tutors are all sixth form specialists, who are passionate about their subjects and dedicated to helping you get where you want to be. Many have previously taught at universities and therefore can help you learn the skills you will need if you pursue a degree.

  • What are your facilities like?

Pudsey Sixth Form College will be entirely purpose-built, carbon-conscious, and has been designed to perfectly accommodate the unique needs of our curriculums, students and teaching methods.

    Experience a campus designed with:

    • Classrooms that balance comfort and light so you can focus on learning
    • Green facilities with specialist fittings
    • Modern architecture
    • Study areas where you can take time to process
    • Communal lounges and dining
    • Spaces to connect
  • What kind of support do you offer?

Our goal is to give each and every student the tools they need to succeed, and support them to build their future. We offer a range of support services, covering everything from advice on independent study to developing tools to help you navigate the world beyond college.

Additionally, we believe that finance should not be a barrier to studying, and offer a range of financial support options for eligible students. Read more about our support here.

  • Do I have to wear a uniform?

There is no uniform. We encourage students to embrace their individuality and makeup and piercings are permitted. We do ask that clothing is appropriate for college.

  • What grades do I need to study with you?

The general entry requirements for our courses are five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English and maths (or equivalent). Some subjects may require a grade 5 or above in GCSE English or maths (please refer to individual course pages for specific requirements).

  • What if I don’t get the required grades for my courses?

If you have below grade 3 in GCSE English or maths, we can still consider your application – depending on your chosen courses. In addition to your chosen programme, you’ll also study GCSE English or maths – equipping you with a key skill that will benefit your future education or work. Alternatively, our Step Up to A Levels (SUTA) programme may be suitable.

  • Who can apply for Pudsey Sixth Form College?

If you are currently in Year 11, you are welcome to apply. Three of the most local schools, Crawshaw Academy, Leeds West Academy and Co-Op Priesthorpe, have worked closely in establishing Pudsey Sixth Form College, but of course we welcome applications from students from other schools.

  • How do I apply?

If you have visited our course pages and found the subjects you wish to study, you can make your application online here. If you have any questions, contact our friendly team.

  • Will I have to have an interview?

Yes, but think of it more as a chat with a friendly member of staff rather than a formal interview with an employer! You will be able to discuss your options with the staff member, working out the best pathways for you and finding what best fits your interests, passions and needs.

  • Will I definitely be offered a place?

Each course will have its own admission criteria – just like any college or sixth form – but each case will be judged on its own merits. The reason we invite you to an interview is to discuss your requirements and find out what is the best for you.

  • What happens after I apply?

You will be invited to an informal interview which will include specialist advice and guidance, ensuring you are given the best opportunity to achieve. After your interview, the team will decide whether to send you an offer. Offers are conditional, based on you achieving the relevant GCSEs, or requirements agreed at interview. An invitation to book an enrolment slot will be sent out mid-July, giving you all the information you need to enrol.

  • What happens at enrolment?

By the end of July, you’ll have received an email inviting you to book an enrolment slot. Enrolment opens on GCSE Results Day. You will need to bring your exam results, National Insurance number and a form of ID. You will receive your start date, ID badge and timetable before the start of term. If your results are not what you expected, you will be able to talk to a friendly member of our team who can help you find the right choice for you.

  • Can I visit the college before I apply?

Construction is underway and we’re working hard behind the scenes, ready to welcome our first cohort of students in September 2025. Therefore we’re sorry to say that the campus won’t be open to visitors until construction is complete. We are hosting Information Evenings at Pudsey Civic Hall in the meantime – please take a look at our Events page for further information.

  • What else is there to do at college, apart from lessons?

We understand that there’s more to sixth form education than a piece of paper, so we’re putting together an extensive range of enrichment activities. These activities are a great way to make new friends and have fun. If there’s something you’re passionate about and you’d like to register interest in a club, society or activity, drop us a message and we can think about including it.

Our campus is designed with access to green spaces, study areas, and places to relax and catch up with friends. Take a break from studying in our communal lounges or grab a bite to eat in the dining facilities.
