A Level Religious Studies is organised into three elements: the philosophy of religion, ethical theories and Christianity.
The philosophy of religion explores theological and philosophical arguments for the existence of God, and looks at objections stemming from the problem of evil. You will look at the arguments put forward by a number of thinkers such as Swinburn, Hume, Freud and Descartes.
Ethical theories cover Christian-inspired ethics, such as divine law theory and situation ethics, and also secular theories such as utilitarianism and Kantianism. Topics typically include abortion, euthanasia and embryonic research.
The third section of the A Level focuses on Christianity, exploring themes such as the sources of wisdom, Christian belief and practice, the nature of God and the concept of the Holy Trinity, the afterlife and Christianity in the modern world.
