Pudsey Sixth Form College students lead community litter clean-up

Posted: 16 April 2026

Students from Pudsey Sixth Form College have been helping to keep the streets of Pudsey clean and welcoming.

Starting from the new Pudsey Sixth Form College campus on Kent Road, students and staff made their way towards Chaucer Avenue. The group split into two teams at Brick Mill Barbers on Robin Lane, each following separate routes before reuniting at Pudsey Cemetery.

In total, 33 students and staff collected 13 10-litre bags of litter, which were responsibly disposed of by Leeds City Council.

Grace Kernick, a year 12 student who took part, said: “I found the litter picking experience to be very rewarding as I knew I was playing a small but important part in helping the community.

“I would love to do it again to make a continuous and visible impact and hopefully encourage the people of Pudsey to help maintain their local areas too.”

Matt Harte, deputy head of Pudsey Sixth Form College, who organised the initiative, added: “Pudsey already has a fantastic number of groups, like Litter Free Leeds, who take the lead in keeping the area clean.

“As a college, we’re proud to get involved and plan to hold more litter-picking walks throughout May and June. Many of our students live locally, so it was wonderful to see the pride they took in improving their own community.”
