In the first six weeks of this course you will be equipped with the basic foundation skills and knowledge you will need over the next two years, covering topics such as observational drawing and colour theory printmaking.
At the end of first year you will specialise in your chosen field of Fine Art, Textiles or 3D and complete an independent cross disciplinary investigation. The project will see you develop, refine, record and present your ideas, showcasing your skills.
In year two you focus on your chosen specialism and complete two main projects. The first, a personal investigation, gives you the chance to produce a project looking into a topic of your choice within your chosen specialism (60% of your final grade). The second is set by the exam board, AQA, and culminates in a 15 hour practical exam (40% of your final grade).
Grade 9-4 at GCSE in an art-based subject; a portfolio is also required at interview.
This course can lead to a variety of career routes depending on your specialism. Examples include art, graphic design, fashion design, animation, illustration, product design, advertising, architecture and marketing.
From 1912 to 1948, you could win an Olympic medal in Art - winners were awarded in five categories: architecture, literature, music, painting and sculpture.
